The price of games…

At the moment i am a bit stuck. I like may people of my age (ish) am a student, skint as hell living on water biscuits and the like, paying my way through uni for a piece of paper that says. Dude your great you can now have some letters at the end of your name (by the end of ts academic year ill be know as the infamous Rob Bunce FDABA woo!) and a piece of paper just to show you that these letter mean something.

So at the moment i Haven’t got much money in the Bank and what i have got is saved for a rainy day (better be raining the day i graduate :p)

So its no surprise really that i think the price of current Gen games these days are a bit steap. Sure the dreaded evil thing that should never come out of a humans lips known as the economic recession *flinches expecting the government to take him out with a head shot* has brought the price of games down a tiny bit but seriously if a new release comes out and i have to folk out 40 quid of my cash for said game. That’s a good months dinners down he drain. But I’m a game a holic there is not a day that goes past that i havn’t  set my fingers on a joy pad of some kind, you could say i was born with a joy pad in my hand. but hats not a mental image anybody wants really.

So what I’m asking here is, is it just me who thinks that the price of games is ridiculous? New PS1 games back then were about 20 quid brand new, Yeah so games these days have HD and maybe fireworks coming out of the TV every time you win but 40 quid? Seriously?

My dilemma at the moment is deciding between Street Fighter IV, Halo Wars, Gh metallica and both F.E.A.R games. Can only have 1 (or 2 in the case of F.E.A.R.) Its times like this where i should if got a part time job at game to get the staff discount.

The Guitar Hero Rockband War

When you think of music games you immediately think guitar hero or rock band. Then you think which one is better? If i were to choose which one should i get? The war still wages on with Rock Band and Guitar hero.

But you may think i am here to answer this question of questions. But the bottom line is I’m not. My opinion with this whole thing is yes both games are similar and i understand that but in most respects they are 2 different games.

So let me break it down. The main difference i am talking here is staring people right in the face. rock BAND and GUITAR hero. Harmonmix the great grandaddy of this type of game (unless you wanna mention koie and the dance matting but that’s a different story) made the Guitar hero game with the guitar peripheral and all about guitar. It is a great game and executes that guitar simulation/i want to be a rock god on a little plastic guitar thing very well. And that was what the game was built for, then good old harmonix thought hey why not take this idea to the next level so lets do all the band peripherals. So to my mind they did the right thing with that and went off to make a new game. Leaving Guitar hero with the guitar to good old neversoft. Never soft now with the guitar hero franchise made a great game with guitar hero 3 legends of rock. Harmonix then made rockband which used all the band kit.

Where i am now going with this is that Rock band was made to be played with a band. Meaning that the game in not centered around one instrument where as guitar hero, now with even the new band peripherals is still very much centered around the guitar. The guitar boss battles are still there and even with the bass guitar play has been boosted. Meaning that GH are still the game to get for plastic guitaring where as rock band as it was built for is general plastic banding.

The bottom line here really is. If the next time you ask yourself which one is better. Think they are both 2 different games that focus on 2 different things even though GH now has the full band it still has is priorities with the guitar.
